Attempting Fun

 *Mordred is not used to crowds, rides, candy and did I mention crowds? So at the moment he is all but clinging to his friend, staring wildly about and jumping at loud noises.* This is supposed to be fun, is it? *Mordred is apparently not used to fun either.*

Mordred is practically glued to her side as they make their way from the entrance gate and are pushed by the constant flow of foot traffic, into the main field. He might be in his human form right now, but he may as well have eight arms.

"Yes." She laughs, her laughter being swallowed up by the music from a nearby ride. "Relax. You're going to have a good time. I promise."

I am attempting to relax, sai. It's rather difficult when there are more people in one place than I've seen in all my life before. *He takes a deep breath to steady himself, but he's still trying to eye everyone at once.* Where do we start?

"Maybe we can start off with one of the candy floss stalls. Food is always a good place to begin right? Look for a stall that has big bags of pink stuff hanging from it, that's what we're going to eat. Can you see any?"

[mordredeschain]

*He nods and points to a cotton candy maker.* Why is it so pink?

[wordsofwater]

"I don't know. I guess they add colouring to it because sugar is mostly white. I guess they think that the pink makes it look more appealing. Like fairy made edible clouds."

[mordredeschain]

From what I know of faeries, eating their food is most unwise. But perhaps they don’t know that.

In any case, I’ve never had pure sugar before. It sounds like fun.

"You're right, You do have to be careful!" she laughs, "Also. There's nothing pink or candy like about any of the faeiries I know either. Some of them are downright sour creatures."

When they get t the stand, Covey hands over the money and asks Mordred to pick out which bag he likes the look of most. They are all fairly identical, but she always liked picking her won bag when she was a kid.

*He grabs the one in the middle, just for symmetry's sake.* I'm often a bit bitter myself, but not today. This day has been good.

"It's only going to get better."

Covey opens the top of the clear plastic bag, the tie on it is fiddly, but eventually she has it open. She offers it towards Mordred. "You first. Grab a handful."

[mordredeschain]

*He does so, although the texture and (lack of) density obviously surprises him. Then he tastes it and nearly falls over.* White and Red, that's so sweet!

[wordsofwater]

"I know!" she says with glee, ripping a large piece off and pushing it into her mouth in one go. It melts, coating her mouth with incredible sticky sweeetness. "But it's so good. isn't it?"

[mordredeschain]

Aye, but also a bit overpowerin' ta me. Not exactly a lot o' candy where I be from, as you well know.

[wordsofwater]

"It's true. I can't eat too much of it myself either. But its nice to try it once in a while. I like the feel of the fluffy airy pieces melting on my tongue." She takes another piece. Pops it in her mouth thoughtfully. You don't have to keep eating it if its too sweet for you. Once you've tried it we can move on to something else.

I like how it melts, aye. 'Tis almost like bein' the spider, ya kennit? But I've learned better than ta gobble stuff up an' then be sick. I've learned that very well.

Praps a ride next? I want to try the boat on a swing and the spinny chairs.

[wordsofwater]

She smiles, head turning this way and that to see which ride is closest and has the shortest queue. "Boat it is then. There's fewer people waiting to go on that ride."

Thankee. Seems almost like learning ta fly or summat, goin’ up like that does, an’ who hasn’t wished they could fly? Aside from White Daddy, that is, since he has no imagination an’ probably hasn’t bothered with wishin’ for aught in the last 500 years.

"Wouldn't being able to fly be wonderful," she agrees as they join the queue.

Which one is white daddy again? Sorry, sometimes your family history is more confusing than mine.

Bedamned Roland Deschain, who only counts as human by default. Mad and broken old wanderer he was and is, the last survivor of the last in a long chain of fallen civilizations. Nasty old chary-ka, him, though at least he'd not see the world ended.

Not that I care so much if it was. After all, it be a-broken.

"Oh goodness." It paints an unhappy picture in her mind. She blinks away thoughts of ended worlds and tries to concentrate back on the brightly coloured happy scene in front of her. The ride has ended and they are just waiting for the people to vacate the ride before a new bunch is allowed on. "It looks like we're on next. Try to get a seat near the back, it goes higher and is more scary!"

I usually sit in the middle of them, since I don't really like heights, but Mordred doesn't mind

I'll do what I can. *He grins at her, leading her onto the thing.* This is goin' ta be fun, I'm thinkin'.

Mordred and Covey are both braver than me

"So much fun." The guy raises the bar to let them through and they both shuffle forward to take their seats.

"The seats feel slidey. Do you mind if I hold on to you. I don't want to slide off."

LOL IKR?

*He nods and wraps his arm around her shoulder. It feels very nice to a boy who has been touch-starved from birth.* Like so, sai?

[wordsofwater]

"Perfect, I'm so nervous now!" she says holding on to him too. She can feel a giggle already starting in her chest, and the ride hasn't even started moving yet.

[mordredeschain]

*As soon as it starts he's laughing, a free and happy sound that's been far too rare in his short life. Then he's singing to himself, a song about flight and falling.

*You'll probably have to pry him off this thing.*

Covey squeals delightedly, every time the boat goes up high. And she clings on to him extra tightly until it sweepers back down again.
