 *Mordred was getting used to having his own home. He was even used to the rather odd people who lived nearby, the Door to nowhere that he could open to anywhere if he tried and the rather odd geography of the area.

*Other people, however, would probably not enjoy walking in on him. If only because of the spiderwebs, the fact that his home was a cave in a rock spire and the unlikely canyon right outside.*

Coventina had come through the Door. From her point of view it was a door from the motel room into the bathroom, but on that occasion she had followed Mordred through it only to find herself in a cave.

It's dark. Not pitch black but enough to need time for her eyes to adjust.

She takes a few more steps. Spider webs cling to her hair. She lifts a hand to brush them away, only to find more cobwebs attaching themselves to her.

"Where am I?"

*He strikes a match, lighting a few candles for her.* This is my home. Welcome to All-World, where time an' space have broken and the world has moved on.

*As if to punctuate that statement, the Door slides away through a wall. It'll probably be back when they need it again.*

Candlelight flickers, throwing shapes across the walls. It give her the creeps until she realises they are merely their own shadows, hers and that of her friend.

When her head turns the door is no longer behind her. Just hard rock and no sign it was ever there.

"Well Toto, I guess I'm not in Kansas anymore." she says quietly, then smiles at Mordred. "Sorry that's a quote from a film, I guess you won't have seen it. Thanks for inviting me into your home."

You are most welcome, sai. It be nice ta have visitors, after all.

Do ya want ta go outside, or would the desert be too much for ya?

She taps her bag which is slung diagonally across her chest. "I have water with me. Maybe a little peek outside can't hurt."

Come along, then. *He leads her up a little ways, to the entrance near the top of the steep hill which stands at the edge of a smallish canyon. There are a few houses scattered in the canyon, though not enough to be even a proper village.*

This was a forest not so long ago, but then there was a beamquake and reality shifted.

The drop off to the Canyon takes her by surprise and she takes a few steps back away fro the edge, lest she fall in to it.

"What is a beamquake?" she asks without dragging her eyes away fro the view.

One o' the Beams as hold up reality failin'. Not a nice thought, is it now?

Where do ya want ta go from here? Down into yon canyon, over ta the proper town a few wheels along this Beam, or is stayin' here fine?

She agrees that it isn't a nice thought at all.

Looking down into the canyon, she realises that if they went down into it they would have to climb back out of it and the way looks quite steep. " how long would it take to get to the proper town? Maybe we could give that a look?"

An hour or two, maybe, depending on how fast you can walk? It's visible on the horizon thataway. *He points across the canyon, over a rope bridge made of silk.* Most o' the folken there be taheen an' can-toi, but they won't bother anyone as walks with the Little Red King.

"taheen an' can-toi?" the words sit unfamiliar on her tongue as she repeats them. Her eyes scan across to the horizon then back to him. "Are you also known as the Little Red King?"

The closest term for them would likely be demons, although most o' them are more brainwashed than truly evil.

Aye, I be their Little Red King. I've a moit o' titles, say true!

Since he already told her that he is a demon, her view on demons is not as harsh as you might think. Having a half demon as a best friend does make you more tolerant.

"I like it. It reminds me of when I was a child. Mother Thames used to call me Little Blue. On account of my hair. Although she never added queen or princess on to the end unless I was being particularly precocious."

*He's rather astonished by the fact that she calls him her best friend. It seems so fast!*

Little colors we shall be together, then. Now then, do you think you can stand the bridge?

She has friends that she has known for longer but in Mordreds case, despite the short amount of time, she feels like he is the friend she can be her best self with, and that's what counts.

The bridge looks lot less sturdy close up. In fact as the wind whips up and then dies down again she sees that it sways and moves in a way she was not prepared for. They stand on the edge of solid ground and in all honesty she is not sure that she can stand it.

"I am not sure. It looks frighteningly unstable. How secure are the fastenings?"

It be made o' spider silk, strong as steel. One strand could hold both our weights, say true.

"Okay, I get that. But isn't it a bit," how do I put it? "Bouncy?" I don't want to fall off

[mordredeschain]

No more than any other rope bridge. Don't worry, I won't let ya fall.

[wordsofwater]

She looks at him doubtfully. "It's not like I don't believe you. It's just that." She looks down at the drop and feels a rush of vertigo hit her. "How would you stop me?"

[mordredeschain]

Hold my hand, praps. Or you could let the spider carry ya, iffen ya don't mind?

[wordsofwater]

"If you wouldn't mind. I think it would make me feel better holding your hand." You must think I'm awfully silly to be afraid of heights like this.

It makes sense if you've rarely been climbin', sai. *He takes her hand and leads her across the bridge, which is quite sturdy for a rope bridge. Spider silk is useful like that.*

The bridge gives and bounces slightly with every step that they take, but it feels sturdy enough. She holds tightly on to his hand anyway and tries not to look down. The wind whips at her hair occasionally making it stream out behind her or wash across her face.

*The bridge is only about ten yards long, and once they reach the other side he quickly leads her away.* The town be all bird-heads an' beast-heads; any humes ya think ya see are apt ta be rats in masks. The rats worship the human form, God alone kens why, so they try ta emulate it.

The other still obey me, mind, son o' the Crimson King as I am. But the rats will obey thee near as much.

Rats in human masks, its the stuff of fairy tales. She keeps a hold of his hand just in case.

"So I'm like, the pied piper here?"
