 *Mordred was getting used to having his own home. He was even used to the rather odd people who lived nearby, the Door to nowhere that he could open to anywhere if he tried and the rather odd geography of the area.

*Other people, however, would probably not enjoy walking in on him. If only because of the spiderwebs, the fact that his home was a cave in a rock spire and the unlikely canyon right outside.*

*Thankfully, the fish is just a fish. Perfectly normal goes-'blub'-occasionally trout-ish sort of fish, although what a trout was doing in an oasis God only knows. Maybe someone dumped some caviar in there?*

The mayor arrives, and immediately begins fawning all over mordred. "We have prepared the dining table for you and your guest- um- er." he looks momentarily stricken having realised that he didn't even ask her name.

"Its Coventina," she says helpfully

*Mordred thanks him politely enough, despite his dislike of this much bowing and scraping, and follows him to the meal.

*One half of the table is dedicated to the fish, which is appetizing to most people. The other half is dedicated to the volunteer, and it's probably best not to look closely.*

Enjoy yourself, Covvy. *He picks up his knife and fork.* I know I will.

It helps that mordred is using a knife and fork to eat his meal, but even so, she tries to be careful and keep her gaze to the fishy end of the table. She picks up her fork and gingerly prods at the offering in front of her, taking the smallest amount on the tines of her fork.

*It's pretty good fish, all things considered.* There's not much ta entertain oneself with here, so folk get lots o' practice at their jobs for lack of else ta do. It makes for good meals when the chefs cook as a hobby, say true.

Relieved that her first bite proved to be a success she loads her fork more enthusiastically and starts to tuck in to her meal properly. "Absolutely, these are some very talented chefs. The sauce on this is just divine. And I haven't come across one bone yet."

*Mordred nods, too busy eating to speak for a moment.* Mmm . . . better than you'd expect from beings with different species's taste buds, for one thing. I wonder how they adjust for that.

That is a very good point. "What species is the head chef," she asks curiously looking up from her plate to mordred.

A cat, if I remember right.

[wordsofwater]

"A cat?" Her face lights up. She is not sure why, but this discovery pleases her. "Cats are one of my favourite animals. They're so delightfully self possessed."

Cats are lovely, I agree.

[wordsofwater]

"Perhaps i can meet the chef?" I'm curious to see what a half cat half-human looks like

[mordredeschain]

*He smiles.* Of course you can.

*The chef is a black cat with golden eyes, human below the neck save for a twitching tail. He's dreadfully busy, but a quick handshake and a moment or two of pride is managed before he's called away again.*

He's quite a pretty cat, but then I like cats generally. They're such charming creatures.

"It just goes to show that if you gave cats opposable thumbs, they would rule the world." she says taking another large mouthful of deliciousness. "The culinary world at least."

Cats already rule the world, as far as they're concerned.

The giggle rumbles through her chest. He's so right.

[mordredeschain]

I'd offer to trade you for some of that fish, but I doubt you want to try this.

[wordsofwater]

Without meaning to her gaze flies up to him and accidentally lands on the food in front of him.

"Oh no." A wave of revulsion surges across her stomach and she puts her hand to her mouth. She turns her head away as quickly as possible " definitely not."

Cry thy pardon for mentionin' it. I don't mean ta spoil things for ta, that just looks good is all.

*He starts eating faster, so she won't have to see it for long. He can always come back, after all, ad he'd rather not upset his new friend if he can help it.*

" no it's ok it's ok," she says with her head turned so very firmly away from his Direction. "My fault. I shouldn't have looked. You are more than welcome to try some of the fish."

[mordredeschain]

*He only takes a little, since he can't offer his meal back.* It is quite good, aye, though I still prefer mine. I can't help it, sai; this be my nature.

[wordsofwater]

"Please, there's no need to apologise. We can't help our nature. I'm just being squeamish. I didn't realise I would be to be honest, it's taking me by surprise."

[mordredeschain]

You met this one, sai, an' did not hate him. 'Tis only natural for that ta change things for ya. That I'm not affected by such be result o' demon blood an' a harsh life both. *He takes a bite and chews it thoughtfully.* It helps that he asked for this, say true; he gave of flesh and blood for me, how can I deny that?

To willingly offer himself up to Mordred is the step she cannot fathom. But he seems to accept it as if this is a common occurrence. "Does that happen everywhere you go?"

Few places are inhabited by taheen and can-toi. In ones that are, like this? Aye; the old an' the maimed think it a better death than simple suicide or the further ravages o' time. I am both prince and demi-god to them, such a death is sacrifice.
